Review: Sushi Zanmai, Cyberjaya

Do you like sushi? If yes, you would like Sushi Zanmai too. It's nice that they opened up one in Cyberjaya. But, lunch time here must be timed properly unless if you don't mind to wait and have 2hour plus lunch hour. However, a high turnover means the food is fresh. I mean, look at that piece of salmon 😍

What about baby salmon then? Over the years, the prices didn't increase much but the portion has certainly downsized. At least they maintained the quality.

If this is beginning to look like a salmon feast, well, it almost is.

Chunks of salmon topped with fish roe maki.

Only because someone was buying me lunch ✌ I kinda miss those days.

Salmon topped with mentaiko is heavenly. The creaminess of mentaiko with salmon just melts on the tongue perfectly.

I promise this is the last salmon (for this post). Salmon hand roll and soft shell crab hand roll. In general, hand rolls are a difficult thing to eat in front of your date. But, when they happen to be either married or not interested in the long run, it's easy to justify looking barbaric in front of them with your mouth wide open.

Something that's not quite salmon: omelette topped with the same mentaiko. I wouldn't say that I am obsessed with the spicy pollock roe but it does make things taste a notch better. Think of it as a slightly fishy mayo.

Deep fried prawn maki topped with cheese and mayo. Somehow, cheese and sushi have always been a hit and miss. Sometimes, they live happily ever after. Sometimes, they are just so volatile like me and my exes, that you wonder why they got together.

Deep fried soft shell crab maki topped with fish roe. An almost equal part of rice and seafood; and that's not a good thing.

Another tempura maki but this time topped with crab.

This range is more expensive but ... I'm really quite shameless, you see. Well, it's not that they didn't want to meet up with me again anymore after that. Our schedules are just not in sync.

Steamed egg or chawanmushi. Over the years, the quality of this dish has dwindled down in most places. They are usually not soft enough that it felt like my cooking. Fortunately, Sushi Zanmai still delivers a heartwarmingly good egg each time.

Chicken katsu don. A rather wholesome meal except for the lack of greens. Maybe the onion counts.

Ebi tempura udon. Definitely very wholesome as it has carbs (udon), protein (prawn) and fiber (kombu).

Cold soba noodle. It's almost peculiar but it works. Trust me.

The noodle's dipping sauce consists of grated radish, chopped spring onion and seaweed. Mix them all together and dip your noodle before slurping it up. Some places make the sauce thicker by giving you a raw quail's egg. Gives the noodle a more slippery texture. I couldn't tell the difference in terms of taste.
