Review: Stephanie Daley
A simple movie with not much of twist, it is about how a woman deals with the case of a possible homicide when a teenager was found with her dead baby. The audience is shown how the plot came to be. You don't get the shocker. In fact, you'd probably know that it was just a stupid teenage who got knocked up. What sets this film apart is how brilliant the characters are in bringing this seemingly mundane storyline to life.
It is surprising to see Tilda Swinton in a role where she plays a weaker character as opposed to her previous roles (e.g. Only Lovers Left Alive, Constantine). She truly showcases that she is able to play quite a myriad of roles. Amber Tamblyn stole the show as well as the said teenage and was very believable in the scene where she lost the baby. Timothy Hutton played a minor but pivotal role in the possible breakdown of the marriage.
Although the ending was quite a letdown given how the movie built up the momentum, it is quite apt given the premise of the movie: a girl who didn't want a baby and a woman who is desperate to keep hers.
