Review: Kai Ming, Kota Kemuning

When an ex-colleague suggested that we head over to her neighborhood for a reunion meal, I was hoping it wasn't going to be Ocean Point. As good as the food was, it wasn't very purse friendly. And the festive season has certainly left me high and dry like my unrequited loves.

Thankfully, she recommended this place instead.

When this arrived, we looked at the captain and asked, "uh, we ordered for one portion. how many is this?"
Apparently, this is as small as one portion goes. At RM38, it was certainly quite a steal (compared to others).

We were easily their first customer of the day and these were very fresh especially the carrot.

Marmite pork. Somehow, everything else was pretty small since we ordered the small portion.
Pork fillets lightly fried and coated with the sweet marmite was quite a crowd pleaser. Although tad bit dry, it was good that the fillets weren't too thick so you can bite it off easily. Just don't bite off more than you can chew regardless of how delicious and kiasu that you want it all for yourself.

Curry fish. Initial order was for a curry fish head but since none of us were good with enjoying fish head (bones and all), the captain suggested we have the fish fillets instead. Surprising given how we were all females that we suck at sucking flesh out of bones. Maybe that's why we are all still single.
The curry was ultra rich and creamy courtesy of the coconut milk. So much so that it was almost overpowering but pairs very well with white rice. The lady fingers, long beans, bean curd skin and eggplant were all cooked until soft and mushy that they soaked up the curry. The fish itself was fresh and certainly sweet even with the curry. Surprisingly the fish wasn't overcooked or hard.

The problem with being Chinese illiterate is not knowing what some vegetables are called in Chinese and/or English.

what's yau mak in English?
i thought the menu is in English?
Yes, it is written as "yau mak" .... in English.

Certainly doesn't help when you know how it looks like but not its name. So I turned to trusty Google =D Thank you, Maxis for the 2GB data and good coverage in Kota Kemuning.
This is plain stir fried yau mak. Fresh and crunchy, I miss my greens =3 Vegetables, money.

Stir fried lala with dried chilli. Despite the chilli, this wasn't very spicy but has a nice fragrance to it. The shellfish was fresh but rather small. Not very fleshy. Left me not very satisfied.

Homemade tofu in mushroom sauce. The tofu is lightly fried so its skin is slightly crunchy but soft on the inside. Sprinkled with minced pork and chicken floss, this may not blow your mind away but certainly is a hearty dish that brings you a step closer to home.
