Trying to plan a closing-year meal (sau gong jau in Cantonese) for a team where everyone is from different parts of town is difficult. One can't go too far which is where the rest of us are. One can't go too late because well, it'll end late. One can't go somewhere too new because don't have data i.e. no Waze. So we ended up here since it meant we can go during lunch hour when all of us can go there together and not get lost on the way back while the sun is still up.

This is their Chinese new year set menu. The funny thing is I assigned it to someone else who nicely printed it out (he got it from a WhatsApp message). Great effort if not for the fact that he knows I can't read Chinese 🍌Anyway, we ended up with Set A because it was the cheapest.

My first lou sang of the year. If you know Dengkil, you would probably not be expecting superb quality food. So, this one isn't those made from fresh ingredients. Nonetheless, a great way to start lunch. We had the salmon version. Thinly sliced but good enough in terms of freshness.

 4 season platter.
Did something happen recently that Chinese restaurants started serving this on a bed of bright (sometimes garish) colored jelly? It's apparently edible but why would you make it in such an unappetizing shade then?? Luckily, the rest of the food are good quite. The fried spring roll covered with black&white sesame seed was especially crunchy with juicy prawns inside. The steamed cabbage roll was not bad too. Not pictured here is the baby octopus on the other side, yummy snack.

 Steamed fish.
It was a rather large and fresh fish, made us all happy after waiting for almost an hour. Not because of the restaurant but something went down at work and had to be fixed ASAP 😭 The joys of working as IT support.

Pork knuckle braised in peanut sauce. Rich gravy, perfect with white rice. It has a very hearty and home flavor. Meat was cooked until almost tender with juicy bits here and there, courtesy of fat, tendon and possibly collagen.

Butter cream prawn stir fried with curry leave and chili.
Don't worry, this isn't too spicy. The prawn wasn't ultra big but they were fresh and we lapped it all up. Sauce even.

Braised mushroom with bean curd skin.
Towards the end, we were really stuffed because the portion was rather large and the menu was intended for 10pax while we were only 9. Like the rest of the dishes, this was simple but good.

 Fried rice.
Somehow, it is really the simplest thing that is the best. This was finished in record time despite it being the last dish and we ate so much of the rest. I think it was the salty fried ikan bilis and rice that made it so irresistible.

The set also came with a dessert which was a bit too sweet but good for those hot afternoons. If you are working in Cyberjaya, this is a good place to bring people for some cheap, good Chinese food. Except if you are squirmish about flies. For some odd reason, flies (lalat) know when to attack you there.
