Located at a corner, it's hard to miss this place with its huge billboard. Since I was feeling under the weather that day, it felt like a good opportunity to take it easy and have some porridge for once. They specialize in bullfrog porridge but rest assured, they have other safer options too if the amphibian animal is not your kinda thing (it definitely ain't mine).
They provide sesame oil, soy sauce and pepper to make your porridge more flavorful but I think just a dash of the oil would do. If you are ordering any of their non-porridge dishes, those have been seasoned a bit more heavily so they even out the slight blandness of the porridge.
Egg stir fried with black fungus RM 8
Who would have thought this would turn out to be an interesting combo? Usually used in claypot pork or the likes, the fungus is soft and stir fried with the egg. If you've had them before, you'll know that they have a rather unique taste. The egg ended up absorbing some of that. Something one will either like it or hate it.
Taiwan style chicken RM 12
Also could be think of as the three cup chicken dish, it's made with a cup each of soy sauce, sesame oil and rice wine. On its own, the dish may be a wee bit too strong of a taste but perfect with the porridge.
Claypot chicken porridge RM 10
Despite my bold culinary choices, frogs are not my thing. In my entire life, I've only ever eaten frog once. That also was because I was over at a friend's place and her grandmother cooked it, "I hope that you take frog leg". Well, how does one say no to that without starving? As cliched as it sounds, it did taste like chicken though this is more than 2decades. I don't eat it mainly because it felt icky to be eating a frog, knowing how it looked like when it was still alive.
Hence, it's good that DST offers porridge with chicken, fish and scallop. For a single portion, it's rather huge with lots of chicken meat in bite size. Not a bad place to have something warm when you're under the weather.
