I think this is the first one to sell sponge (?) cake and only that. Ok, maybe with cheese as well.

Although I was where it supposedly originated from, I didn't ry it there. During one of our night market visits, we did see a stall with a long queue. It didn't look worth the effort so we gave it a miss. Somehow, that worked out because they decided Malaysians would like it as much and opened few stores. One just at my backyard.

Each of it is baked in a large pan with both flavors: original and cheese. To make sure everyone gets a fair share (and that the cake does fit in snugly into the box), they actually do take out a ruler to measure it.

How's that for precision?

Depending on when you go, sometimes there's a queue, sometimes not. I picked a not-so-peak hour but still had to wait a bit for the cakes to be ready. Watching them cut it is quite enjoyable as you watch the cake jiggly with every movement of the knife.

You might be lucky enough to get some of the cheese spillover into your original flavor cake. Also, of all the names, they picked something which is so bland, unoriginal.

The box was made for the cake. Or is it the other way round? Either way, you get a perfectly fitting cake and it even comes with a plastic knife for you to cut.
Those holes on the left are from checking that the cake is ready on the inside.

Having it fresh, I felt that it was quite a hype. Certainly not quite worth the queue. Sure, it does feel lighter and not as rich/sinful as Western cakes but to stand in line for more than 15minutes?

However, it did taste better the following day. With a bit more texture, it was great with coffee.
