La Risata, Medan Damansara
Located at the back row, it's easy to miss this place. I only knew about Victoria Station, Sri Ayutthaya and Jake's. There used to be another steak house but that place has since closed down. Long time ago, it was for a dinner that turned into a date. As embarrassing as this may seem, my guy radar was/is quite rusty. Those who are friendly and chatty with me, I would attribute as good friends (and nothing more).
Oh yes, please weep for them for being in the friendzone, all the while thinking that I was hooking up with them.
There's a bar full of alcohol that you can possibly get drunk with over lunch. Yup, that I did. With my family. No shame there. Well, maybe just a tiny bit.
There's indoor and outdoor dining areas but we Malaysians/Asians stick to our air-conditioner, thank you. The place was popular with young families with their kids, barely 7years old. You know, back at my day, going to Sushi King would have been a luxury. Actually, I don't think I really went there as a kid as my father didn't really like sushi ðŸ˜
Nothing quite like warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start a meal.
Crema di zucca al forno RM 14: wood fired oven roasted pumpkin soup
My aunt wanted to try this as she never had pumpkin soup before. It turned out to be rather sweet, not sure if it's something I like savory.
Pizza porcini RM 36: Porcini mushroom, button mushroom, truffle oil, fontina, parmesan and mozzarella
For a vegetarian pizza, it was delicious, thanks to the good cheese and oil used.
Pizza Hawaiana RM 25: Grilled chicken breast, caramelized pineapple, tomato and mozzarella
Like why come to a proper Italian restaurant and order this? Because one of your guests is too used to Hawaiian Chicken, thanks to Pizza Hut.
I think the thin crust and the oven certainly made a difference and lifted this pizza from its lowly commoner status.
Pesce alle melanzane piccante RM 38: pan-fried fillet of barramundi topped with sauteed eggplant, anchovy, garlic, chili flakes and pine nutes served wtih julienned vegetables.
This one is as appetizing as it looks, nothing special really.
Stinco d'agnello RM 36: wood fired oven braised lamb shank in a rosemary sauce with mashed potato
Love it when they braised any meat until it's practically falling off the bone. The sauce was rich enough to complement the lamb.
Peeto di manzo con vino rosso RM 45: Wood fired oven roasted beef ribs in a reudction of red wine sauce on a bed of mashed potato.
Another crowd favorite, the beef was well marinated and the creamy potato is divine.
Risotto nero di seppia RM 36: squid ink risotto with grilled baby octopus and cuttlefish
My first proper risotto turned out quite nice. Although the sticky pasta texture took a bit of getting used to, the trick is to have it when it's still hot. The octopus was fresh and not over cooked.
Gnocchi ai peperonchini grillia e chorizo RM 28: homemade potato dumplings with lamb chorizo sausage and ricotta cheese in a red pepper sauce
This is one of those dishes you usually see on cooking shows where they say it's not that difficult but I honestly don't see it worth the effort. The gnocchi is slightly chewy and blended well with the sauce.
Sicilian bombe RM 38: Meringue covered liquored sponge filled with lemn cream flambeed with brandy - cold on the inside and hot on the outside
There was a little bit of fanfare when it arrived at the table, flames and all. It turned out to be almost like a tiramisu but minus the coffee. Perfect with a cup of coffee.
Torta di cioccolato RM 16: Flourless dark chocolate cake with a melting chocolate center served with vanille ice cream
Comparatively, this one has simpler flavors, nothing complicated about chocolate and vanilla. Turned out not too sweet either.
Here's the menu though I think you're better off checking them out here.
