Following a rather depressing birthday eve celebration, I woke up to a rather cloudy day on my birthday. Not that it's a complaint since we were going to try out the famous, supposedly cheapest food joint on the entire island. Best of all, it is located smack across the place we were staying in. Walking distance so no need to drive.

The menu sans price.

At least the water is free.

Famed for their cheap nasi kandar option, you're free to take as much (or little) without pesky waiters hounding you. Or maybe because we were there early (brunch time).

Although the place has tomato and nasi kandar in their names, we gave the namesake dish a miss and opted for the beriyani instead. Hey, at least we did try something rice which is quite a feat for a couple of no-carb eater.

The meat section had a good variety going on.

Simple veggie to counter the heavy curry stuff.

They do have a non-spicy section as well but what's the point if you're not going on a spice ride in a nasi kandar joint?

The amount of curries can be quite mind boggling but all the better.
Try ALL the curry and let your anus feel their wrath tomorrow.

Nasi beriyani with curry beef and achar or pickled vegetable. The rice had a good hint of spice. Beef was cooked until it was oh-so-soft. Not too spicy. Actually, it may not have been beef. I can't recall =D One thing for sure: it was delicious.
The veggie was a little on the sweet side.

The curry mutton is another must try here based on some reviews. True enough. It was slow cooked until the meat is just falling off with a pull from the fork. Served hot, I could easily let go and go crazy by flooding rice with its curry and just eat till kingdom come. It was that good.

Cheese naan is another that deserves a special mention. Be warned though. Once you're tried this, nothing else may come close.

For starters, they are rather generous with the cheese. Then, the cheese. How do I start? Where do I begin to glorify it? Instead of using those crappy Kraft slices, they used proper cheese. Lots of them to boot.

Of course, it ain't your blue cheese or the likes. Just something that is more respectable than your sliced kind. And that makes all the world a difference.
