Review: Ice dessert stall, Kg Simee, Ipoh

After getting some fried chicken, we hopped across the road to get something to cool the day off. This is quite the centre of town.

A former clinic, the doctor was an affable, big Singh man with a rather jolly smile. The family used to stay upstairs while they operated downstairs. After awhile, they shift out of the top floor but the clinic was still there. Fast forward to the last decade, the clinic became a shadow of its former self, with its patients mainly of the questionable kind (think: tanned men, sometimes with the helmet still on). Rumor has it that cough syrup was easily dispensed here.

I don't know how is it that codeine gives you a nice high. Or fatigue.
If anything, it is just a rather thick concoction of sweetness. Or maybe my supply is all wrong.

Where else can you find dentist that doesn't look out of place in a horror film?

Operating from outside a house, I don't think they have a valid food operating license.

Why not get a haircut while you're at it?

Maybe get some (Chinese) religious paraphernalia. During the recent winter solstice festival, tg brought up a rather interesting point. Today's society isn't all that keen on keeping up with the traditions. We don't exactly do this and that as part of our tradition; more of a cultural thing.  The meaning behind them lost with the previous generation. My father was indirectly lamenting how my generation doesn't understand the tradition of making tong yuen which (supposedly) brings the family together by sending videos of short stories that are supposed to tug at the heart string.

My heart is broken. What more string?

A not-so-makeshift stall, it has been around for a decade or so. There were few holidays that I helped out here because I was bored. Didn't get paid except in kind.

Mix fruit ice that came with generous portions of fruits. Partly because we were there right from their beginning. Heck, we saw their daughters got married, gave birth and now, divorced.

The fruits were fresh and come on, how difficult can it be to assemble this into a pleasing snack?

 ABC or ais batu campur.

The quintessential Malaysian dessert, it is perfect for our weather with its chill factor and sweetness. If nasi lemak is our national dish, ABC is our national dessert.

Lemonade with assam boi. Strange because growing up, I've never taken a liking for assam but in recent years, it has been one of those drinks that I don't mind as a break from the boring teh ais, milo ais.

Not from the same location but just few doors away, my uncle used to order a plate of stir fried noodles for mid night snack while watching the idiot box. They'll deliver to your doorstep and you can return the bowl/plate the next day. The perks of a small town life.

Although my cousin finds this good, mediocre is my score for them.
