Two Pesos

If you're bored of the run-of-the-mill steamboat and looking for something more personalized, give Two Pesos a chance.  They may not be cheap but hey, at least you don't have to share with your friend who has questionable eating habits (double dipping, ew).

Most of the stuff here are self-service so feel free to refill as much chili sauce, bean sauce, fried shallot in oil and of course, soy sauce that you could possibly consume. The chili sauce is quite spicy though.

Classic Value Pot RM 13.90: Freshly selected ingredients cooked in Two Pesos Signature Chicken Soup, presented with affordable price and the portion is just nice for any hungry patrons to feel satisfied. Classic Original Pot has always been the top choice for Two Pesos regulars around the world for a quick and affordable meal. Every day is a good day for Hotpot!
Want something simple and not too complicated? Then this one's for you. It has the basic vegetable, the kind of stuff that you expect to find in any steamboat, except in smaller amount and fresher. In terms of quantity, it may look like a bit of a disappointment but it's really enough to feed one mouth sufficiently.

It also comes with a pork and a choice of carb (mee hoon, instant noodle, yee mee).
The soup is light on the palette, maybe even a bit bland but tastes good enough after it's been cooked long enough with the food.

Two Pesos Stone Pot RM 18.50: Popular amongst 70th century, boil the soup after gentle aromatic stir-frying is its essential feature. Our famous signature stone hotpot carries the nostalgia of Taiwan traditional delicacy.
I think that they use the same soup, only difference being the onion and pork slices are fried first. Does that make much of a difference? Well, a wee bit. Gives more flavor to the soup but not by much. The amount of food provided is about the same as the value set.

Luckily, they took care of the hard work. Once the pot was hot, the slices of pork belly and onion were stir fried for a bit with the onion getting more cooking to make it soft(er). I don't really taste much of a difference this makes to the soup but the fried pork belly was certainly delicious.

Mongolian herb pot RM 18.90: Feel the Mongolian plains culture by allowing our carefully picked herbs flow through your taste buds. Double boiled for hours and hours, with fully natural ingredients, it is beneficial for health, rich and refreshing!
I wanted to see if their other sets would use a different soup (something with more flavor). Turned out that yes, this one actually has some herb taste. However, don't expect to have that full-on Chinese herbal soup taste as this one is comparatively mild. Still, I would go for this next time (once I've tried other soups).

Most of their sets come with a meat of either pork, beef or fish slice. The vegetables are pretty much standard across the board. Not much but enough for a meal.

The sets also allow you to choose one carb from rice, mee hoon, yee mee and instant noodle. Given my stance against the last, I actually did enjoy it the most out of the noodles options as they still had some texture after cooking while the rest fell into a limp.

Personally, I think this place draws the younger crowd as it markets itself as being vibrant and up to date, unlike conventional steamboat joints. They have branches in PJ SS2, Kota Damansara and Puchong Jaya. All of them would require some wait at the usual dinner hours unless you're early. I've been to them all, happy to say that the wait is consistent along with the food quality and service.
