Review: Kedai Kopi Seng Heng, Klang

As a Klang-ite, it is slightly embarrassing for someone non-local to introduce this place again. But in my defense, I stay at the other end of town. My childhood memories of Kapar is fogged up with dusty roads, big lorries and unbearable heat. Oh and that infamous Bata factory where they would occasionally hold sales for their shoes with that lingering rubber smell in the air.

That weekend, the sleepy town of Kapar is still the same. Sure, the roads are (slightly) better but it isn't a place I'd drop by just ffs. If you want to come here, be sure to reach early before they run out of fish (their signature dish) and tables. Waiting can be quite painful since there aren't that many tables and even lesser chefs.

 Bitter gourd omelet.
My lunch date raves about this. As someone who doesn't take bitter gourd at all, she liked it here because not only is the gourd thinly sliced, it didn't have much of bitterness. While my tolerance to bitter gourd is growing to the point I actually would eat them, this dish has the egg to thank for its deliciousness with its slightly deep fried texture.

Pork belly in dark soy sauce oil/gravy.
Can you just see the fat and oil glistening? The pork is fatty and juicy with that typical belly texture: soft and tough at the same time. This is one dish that you'd want to go with the white rice. On its own, it is sinfully great. With the rice, it is just as minus guilt. The whole psychological effect that the rice absorbed the oil.

Stir fried shredded cabbage.
Nothing special or spectacular but it has its draw in how homely it tastes. The veggie still has some crunch to it but like the pork, this was also somewhat oily.

 Deep fried spicy fish.
This is a no-frills restaurant so don't expect to pick what fish. You eat what they have for the day. Thankfully, their fish is top notch since every table ordered one. Deep fried until really crunchy, it's bathed in a thick savory sauce mixed with chopped cili padi. It's meant to cater for the Chinese masses so don't worry, you won't need to have a glass of iced water on standby. Unless if it's for the weather.
