Ever since her return from her year (plus) long stint in Bangkok, jl has been on the hunt for authentic Thai food. Thus, it was no brainer that she bought this voucher and asked us to join her. It was my second visit here. The first was quite a strange one too. My then-team lead asked me out for lunch, just the both of us. While we weren't exactly at loggerheads, we weren't exactly the chummy, close, buddy buddy type. You know, the kind of girls who'd hang around the pantry together to catch up on the latest gossip or go to the washroom together.

Actually, it is baffling as to why people would want to go to the toilet together to talk because:
  • it is a toilet.
  • it is a public place and anyone/everyone would be listening in and that is not eavesdropping.
  • how does anyone pee while talking? I can't even pee when someone is outside the door, waiting for me to be done
  • even more, how does one poo and not be awkward about it while having a conversation with another person?!?!?
Obviously, the last doesn't count if that conversation is taking place on your phone. Anyway, that should give you an inkling of idea on how good of a girl friend I am. The platonic kind.

Tom Yam: Spicy & sour lemongrass soup with roasted chilli paste & spices.
If you come to a Thai restaurant and not order their tom yum, you don't know what you're missing out on.
Actually, that's a line taken from Trip Flip :") Still, you should order one of Thailand's best gift to the world whenever dining in any Thai establishments. Our clear version has enough of seafood and sourness to it. Unfortunately, our in-house Thai food connoisseur is of the opinion that it tastes good but not all that authentic.

Som Tam (papaya salad) RM 9: Green papaya, dried shrimp, tomato, chilli, long beans and lime juice.
They were pretty generous with the papaya but I find the veggie strips were just too thin that it doesn't have much of a crunch factor. The raw long beans and cabbage leaves were also quite an oddity. Frame Thai is certainly a notch up when it comes to papaya salad.

Kai Hor Baiteay (Pandan chicken) RM 15: Marinated fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaves
For the humble fragrant leaf, pandan is also known as screwpine leaf which sounds so high class. The chicken were a little dry but nice flavors from the marinade.

 Deep fried vegetable platter.
Eggplants (or *cough* aubergine), cauliflower, long beans, carrots, all deep fried, leaving behind a nice crunchy layer of batter before that slightly mushy fiber. As one of those suckers for deep fried food, this was delicious. What more when it's vegetables we are talking about.
Forget that it was deep fried. Focus on it being delicious. And fiber.

Cocoa jelly on the house. I've had jelly in many different flavors before. Chocolate wasn't one of them. Hence, this was slightly confusing to my taste buds. Not overly sweet but my brain cannot brain jelly with chocolate flavor.

Kaoniew Mamuang (mango with sticky rice) RM 9.50: Steamed Thai sticky rice served with Thai mango
A proper Thai dessert, some places refuse to serve this on their menu because good mangoes are hard to come by all the time that they'd rather not risk it at all. Otherwise you'd end up with sub par product like Surisit. Btw, Surisit Paramount seems to have either a change in management or they sold the business off as it's no longer called that when I passed by the place few weeks ago.

As for this, it was definitely not reheated though there is room for improvement.
