Review: Le Cottage Steamboat, Tropicana

Jalan Tropicana Selatan,
Tropicana,
43700 Petaling Jaya
When this place first opened, Facebook was littered with its marketing campaign. All of which are in Chinese, spewing out notes of romanticism, good food. They failed to say how expensive the food is and the place is rather isolated. You may also have some mosquitoes for company.

Located within an orchard, they happen to have a pond with fishes. Like lots of them. Each of which is easily bigger than my thigh. I don't think they'd make for good bolsters being all wet and slippery.

To be honest, I found the service rather lacking. The waitress looked like she got something better to do than to show us to a table (the place layout is slightly confusing). Luckily, we were there on a rainy night so it wasn't so hot.

The table setting was impressive. It made sense when we scanned thru the menu: Expensive.

The place does have a nice ambience. Soft lights, running water to give you a tranquil atmosphere. For a date, it's quite nice but would you bring your date out for steamboat?

They have a rather impressive selection of sauces to go along.

Fish paste RM 12, pork balls with mushroom RM 10
It was my first time trying out such paste where they use a spoon to scoop the paste out of the bamboo stick and into the boiling water. Somehow, it disintegrated slightly in the soup. The pork balls were quite flavorful. Just pricey.

Abalone mushroom RM 7.80, sliced premium pork loin rolls RM 9
For half the price, I could buy an entire packet of mushroom, which is probably double of this. The pork was sliced very thinly and cooked quickly in boiling soup.

We ordered the coriander, egg and tofu soup. It's quite the best steamboat stock soup that I've had around. None of that fishy taste or overly meatiness. A good striking balance of the coriander and pork bone. However, at RM 18 for just the soup alone, it was pricey. No doubt, this place does have good food but the price is just too high.
