Shinmapo, SS15 Courtyard

Does anyone remember when the Korean BBQ scene exploded? Everywhere, everyone was doing it. Shinmapo was one of the pioneers and it wasn't uncommon (back then) to see a queue snaking outside their restaurant. Given my sheer laziness and impatience, there were only few times that I was tempted. The queue was a great deterrent . Few years later, not only is there no queue, there were barely any customer. Has the fad died or did Shinmapo just failed to live up to their reputation and people got wiser?

We ordered the basic BBQ set which came with the usual refillable sides. None of which were very memorable.

The set came with a soup as well that they cooked at the table for you. Sorry but this was rather bland. It came with dried bean curd skin and the soup tasted like that. Too weird for my un-Korean palette.

The only saving grace is the meat. They cooked it for us until just right. Even so, because it was just the two of us, we took our time to finish so some meat weren't hot by the time we got to them. Not their fault, just saying.

Fair to say that no more coming here.
