XXXIII: Homely last supper dinner

No. 268, Linsen N Rd,
Zhongshan District, Taipei City,

The actual very last meal that we had in Taipei was really pure random luck. It was raining and we had our luggage in tow, not the best combo to be food hunting or even any traveling for the matter of fact. We had been walking around for some time yet couldn't find a decent joint for dinner. Neither did the gradually heavy rain help our cause much especially without any umbrella on hand.

We had two choices of packed-to-the-brim tourist traps, but both looked quite pricey. Took a gamble and went down the road to check out any joint in the hole and found this place. Sorry, my brain has had enough of looking at Google Maps for the night.

Similar to this but with more variety, the top right is the usual Chinese sausage. Center bottom is pork spring roll but not very crunchy outside. It does have bits of water chestnut inside so that's nice. Top left is steamed glutinous rice with peanut and minced pork floss with some sweet chili sauce. Unlike our loh mai kai, this isn't sticky and won't leave you feeling stuffed.

Pork collagen ball on the left and pork corn soup on the right.
I've seen recipes that call for corn and trying it for the first time, I have to admit that it strangely works to a certain extent. The marriage of sweet corn with the savory pork results in a light soup that has these flavors that blend together.

The meat balls are unique, interesting and most certainly an acquired taste. Most of these dishes (except for the soup) were served cold and that was fine, give their nature. This dinner gave a nice and warm fuzzy feeling. I'd like to think that this is what the locals eat in the comforts of their home.
