Who would have thought that the place that made us eat raw fish happily would also be able to turn one of our staple meat into something that's different than we could ever attempt. If you're looking for fried pork chop that's a wee bit healthier, Tonkatsu by Ma Maison would most certainly make you a happy camper.

Japanese roasted barley tea is served throughout the meal to help create a satisfying "after taste" experience. Well, I think it's a good idea since tea can wash down the deep fry flavor quite well.

 Oroshi  or white radish.
Formed into a ball in a puddle of tamari dressing, it's meant to help refresh the digesting process before enjoying your main course. You can either take it on its own or with the dressing. It just looks too perfectly round to be eaten. But you should as it's like a form of appetizer though it does pair well with the rice.

Many different condiments with their own uses. They do have a pictorial to help you out.
You're supposed to grind the rock salt into a separate bowl as it helps bring out the taste of the meat. Use it with either the sweet or spicy tonkatsu sauce. Or even both if you like the both of best worlds.
This is a rather personal thing that you can just tweak to your heart's content.

Katsu set.

 Also another katsu set.
Well, you can't come to a katsudon joint and not order one katsudon. They offer a few different types of them, mostly differ by the size and cut of meat. The pork was juicy and either sliced thinner than usual or lightly tenderized before it's generously coated with breadcrumbs for frying. Unlike the usual Japanese tempura style of frying, this is closer to their croquette.

Their cabbage was not only crunchy and fresh, it's as though it was soaked in icy water just before serving. They recommend eating it with the salad dressing to help cleanse the taste of the meat, as well as making it a balanced meal. Only the Japanese would go to such lengths to make sure you eat healthy.

Not your run-of-the-mill miso soup but one that's been cooked in Nagoya style and meant to compliment the pork chop. The pickles or tsukemono is best eaten with the warm rice to stimulate the taste buds.

The meat isn't dry though the sauce certainly brings the flavor out even more. Definitely well worth it as you can refill the rice, soup and cabbage. Oh you can opt for either normal or multi grain rice too at no extra charge.

While I wouldn't recommend bringing your date here since you'll want to stuff yourself silly with the free refills, it's got a nice ambience for a nice date.
