Souka, Subang SS15
Previously famous for Japanese restaurants, this stretch of row started to see a wave of change when more non-Japanese eateries decided to take a chance and open here. Souka offers not just coffee and cakes but you can get full meals here too.
Fish and chip RM 16: deep fried tempura battered dory fish fillet served with shoestring fries, tartar sauce and lemon wedge
It's not difficult to get fish and chips right.
Unless if you're trying to do it at home. Without an air fryer. Using a normal pan. With barely enough oil to cover the fish because you want to be 'healthy'. Sorry, I was just reminiscing about my failed fish frying misadventure. Thankfully, Souka is a better chef than I am so these came out crunchily well.
Hearty beef stew RM 18: slow cooked beef tenderloin chunks, carrots and celery served with potato mash.
I love stews especially on cold, rainy nights. When the meat's been cooked long enough for it to be falling apart and oozing with the sauce, that's when you know you've hit jackpot. These were hearty and made for a great dinner.
It would be a disservice to go to a bake shop and not order a slice of cake. Coffee not a good idea since I need my shut eye 😴
The red velvet comes with the compulsory cream cheese icing. Love the icing that's not too sweet. Not bad to end the night.
