Review: The Infidel

Yes, I have a knack for watching old movies. They just happen to be there. This was one of them. To be honest, it took me few times before I got around to finish watching it as it looked like a crappy movie. Partly because it was washed out. Partly because it was a low quality version. All that aside, it turned out to be a rather enjoyable movie.

Omid Djalili looked strangely familiar. My first guess was Danny DeVito(maybe it is the baldness) but no. Still, Djalili was quite good as the Muslim man who realized that he is in fact a Jew adopted by a Muslim family. As someone who is ignorant about Jews in general, I assume that the Jews and Muslims aren't on very friendly term, hence making this ironic. The movie chronicles Djalili's character, Mahmud into accepting his Jewish background and eventually come to terms with it while also trying to get his son married to the step daughter of an ultra devout Muslim.

After finishing it, one thing dawned to mind: this is a movie that will never pass the Malaysian censorship today.

Thank God for the Internet.
