When this place first opened, I was quite eager to try it out because many years ago, my uncle brought us to the original restaurant in Raub (duh) and it left a lasting impression. Also, my mother bought me a packet of their ready-to-cook curry and boy, was it spicy. None of that sweet curry like Brahim's. What you get out of the packet is pure heat.
Of course, the fact that you can get discount just by making a reservation on OffPeak sweetens the deal further. Only problem is it felt awkward making a reservation for one. So, it was nice when the girls wanted to come here after dessert.
This may just be the most high class mamak but it would be wrong to even call it that as they offer more than your usual mamak food. They don't put the words kari kepala ikan or curry fish head on their signboard for nothing. But for that night, we opted for mamak food because it was already 10pm.
Their teh tarik was just so-so, nothing special. That's a barley drink on the right. Do you know that a packet of raw barley which could easily yield two small pots of drink cost only RM 0.50? And they charge you about RM 2 or so outside. Bloody rip off.
Roti canai/kosong RM 1.20
Although it isn't as good as I.V.'s, the roti is definitely one of the better ones I've had.
Slightly crispy, it tastes great with the spicy curry or mild dhal if that's your thing.
Tosai RM 2.50
A healthier alternative, this is fast becoming my favorite as it tastes healthier than roti. Its crunchy texture also makes it better. Here, it is not only crispy but you can taste a bit of the ghee.
Claypot chicken varuval RM 7.90
How does this differ from the non-claypot version? The heat factor actually increases the spiciness of the dish. It was hard to tell if you're sweating from the heat or the curry itself. Either way, the chicken was delicious, well marinated.
