If you are looking to impress your date without breaking the bank, Rakuzen is a great place to go to. Their food has always been top notch though in recent years, it has suffered slightly. Or maybe it's just this particular branch where it is always full house during dinner.

Their menu hasn't changed much over the years which can be a good thing to creatures of habit. While I can't say that it is authentic Japanese food, it does taste better than Sakae Sushi. If your idea of Japanese food is Sushi King, please go fuck yourself try Sakae Sushi. Move up to Hokkaido Ichiba then Rakuzen. Kampachi would probably your ideal Japanese restaurant. Eventually.

What goes best with Japanese food? Why, green tea, of course.
But then again, that is also because it is the cheapest option.

Agedashi tofu. For something so simple, leave it to the Japanese to make it taste this good.

While they do serve ala carte items, there are also affordable sets. They come with the standard steamed egg (chawanmushi) which is rather good.

Pickled salad to start the meal on the right note.

Sashimi bento. Each slice fresh, each slice a burst of flavor in the mouth. There is also rice underneath all the seafood.

Seafood claypot... something =D
I didn't order this so can't comment.

Chicken Katsudon. The onion wasn't too strong so it was a nice touch with the deep fried breaded chicken cutlet and steamed egg. Very homely though not something I'd be able to replicate at home (at all).

Udon and sushi set.
