So successful they were running out of a stall in a restaurant that they decided it was time to hit the high road and open up a place of their own. Prawn noodle is something that is almost synonymous with Penang but the strange thing is in Klang Valley, it is called  har mee in Cantonese but in Penang, it is called Hokkien mee which will actually give you something that is not prawn noodles in Klang Valley. Confusing? Well, not as confusing as Penang cuisine in general.

Who better to verify the authenticity of the food here than a true blue Penangite?
Prices stated here are pre-GST.

 Chee Cheong Fun RM 4.50.
Even when I was in Penang itself, this was a dish that I couldn't truly enjoy. Well outside of my comfort zone, the noodles had a smooth texture (thumbs up) but the sauce was an acquired taste due to the shrimp paste. So you get a slightly fishy sauce which is mildly masked with the generous sprinkling of sesame seed and deep fried shallots.

 Loh Mee RM 6.50.
A far cry from the Ulu Yam version, the soup has a similar consistency but that's where the similarity ends. Flavor wise, you get that slightly fishy taste. Again, loads of fried shallots to make the dish more savory.

Prawn mee with pork ribs RM 10.
One may argue that's  pricey but they did give you with a fair bit of meat. The soup is almost like what you get from any other stall except with the undertone of pork. Actually, not quite an undertone but it was rather prominent. I wouldn't say it was bad but I prefer my prawn noodle to have prawn flavor and nothing more, thank you.

Barley drink with half a chicken egg RM 3.50
I think this is the first place (that I know of) to serve this dessert with a chicken egg. Although it wasn't as diluted, it wasn't great either.

Overall, it is safe to say Penang food is an acquired taste.
Bear in mind, I am not saying that it is bad. Just ...... different.
