Review: Ratha Raub, Damansara Uptown
Previous visit.
Given that my previous visit was quite good, you'd think that subsequent visits would be pretty much the same right? Wrong. Not sure if it was because the place was overcrowded that night (took awhile for us to get a table, then another while for them to clear the table, and yes, again another while for them to finally take our order) or things have gone downhill ever since but it was a tad bit disappointing for this up class mamak.
They ran out quite a number of stuff and we were rather lazy to go else where so stayed on for dinner anyway despite the chaos.
Tosai telur was not crispy. In fact, it was quite thick. That's probably good to tear apart and duck it into the curry or swab it with some gravy.
Roti telur was freshly made but I think they could do better by making it crispier. Maybe I.V. just spoilt my lifetime experience with roti canai. Of course, it sucks that they are so far away but perhaps, that is a blessing in disguise.
Curry chicken which was in place for another chicken dish which they ran out of.
For starters, this is a little different from the usual mamak or Indian curry that I am accustomed to. More watery, less thick, not as much coconut milk I'm guessing. Taste wise, it's not bad but felt more like a Chinese than Indian curry. Good thing is the chicken's been cooked long enough that the meat was tender and falling apart when you poke it with your fork.
Curry mutton? Varuval mutton? Ok, I admit I can't recall which style of mutton this is but one thing's for sure is that it is mutton. A damn good version of it too. The only unfortunate thing is they served this lukewarm, heck, even room temperature which didn't allow you to fully appreciate the generous spices that went into it. Otherwise, it would have been perfect.
