Review: KLA Seafood, Puchong

One of the many restaurants popping up in Facebook that are offering steamed seafood, we decided to have our sau gong chow dinner here. It is funny as my team has only 3 people including myself and the other team has about 7. In total, we made up for a perfect table of 10. Nvm that our roles don't exactly overlap. This is a matter of convenience and practicality.

The significance of this dinner is to thank the staff the wonderful job they've done in the past year. It's more for them to blackmail their boss into free food. Yee sang is probably a very overpriced dish given that it's mainly just per-processed junk food arranged together. Unlike that year before, my yee sang obsession this time around is nowhere to be seen. But, lets not jinx it until 11th Feb.

The salmon slices were OK. Obviously, compared to Sushi Zanmai's, this one cannot fight. However at RM 88, this is quite a rip off.

This takes the title of most violent lou sang  session of my entire life. The food was just flying everywhere, off the plate. Maybe a good sign of the year to come?

Mongolian style chicken wings RM30 .
It has a hint of curry but not too spicy. Rather interesting flavor.

Deep fried mantis prawn with salted egg yolk rm 28
While it could have been crunchier, the generous coating of egg yolk more than makes up for it.

Deep fried squid with salt and pepper RM28. One of their famous dishes, it's like an addictive beer grub. Good on their own and makes you want to pop one after another.

Stir fried mixed beans RM25. There were ladies fingers, long beans and egg plant. Surprisingly, I liked this a lot due to the sambal paste used which had a good hint of dried prawns. Would go very well with bowl of hot rice.

 Medium seafood platter RM488
Yes, there's small and large portions. We were thinking if it's going to be sufficient for our party of 9. It turned out to be more than enough. For starters, they gave a lot of the small squids and clams, hidden underneath. For carbs, they provided mee hoon that soaked up the soup's flavor. You can't tell but there's white tofu in the middle with mushroom and cabbage for fiber. There is a whole lot of stuff going on here and that's only the beginning.

Crabs, prawns, mussels, squids, scallops, giant prawns. Don't think I missed out on any.

Overall, the seafood was mostly fresh though the prawn and crab were just average. The clams were shriveled up and mussels, though overcooked, weren't rubbery. The soup was not that impressive imho but they all think it was rather good. It's funny because 2 of the dinner attendees don't really eat seafood, one to the extent of being allergic to it. Don't ask why she agreed to this.

If you enjoyed Kai's Plato, this is probably a joint that you don't want to miss.
