Movies: The Lobster

A dark romantic comedy but downright horrific if it happened in real life, the movie opens with a befuddling scene of a word shooting at donkeys which made sense towards the end but I won't spoil it for you because you really should go watch it instead of trashy movie like anything from (insert actors/directors of slapstick comedies). Plus, it won some award and that's quite a brownie point when you make conversation of it, "Oh, you've not heard of it before? It's won xxx award".

Yes, that is how I fake my life through.

With a strong ensemble of Colin Farrell (so unrecognizable as a fat middle aged man), Rachel Weisz (gone is her goof The Mummy persona) and Léa Seydoux (she is forever going to be that lesbian), it is a straightforward movie about relationships. Except where if you don't have someone to reciprocate your feelings in 45days, you get turned into an animal. The plus point is, you get your pick of what animal to be.

The background music is especially soothing, given the plot. There are multiple shots which are simple but adds to the atmosphere. There aren't much exciting shots or sex scenes to pull the mass audience but it is a clever movie injected with satirical humor.
