mother!
Probably not the kind of movie to watch over Christmas but it has Biblical references, so why not?
Ops, spoiler alert 😁
Touted as a psychological horror movie, it is about a couple played by Javier Bardem and Jennifer Lawrence settling into their idyllic life in their suburban house that was really Bardem's house that was previously burnt down. There isn't much background to them but as the movie progresses, you can't help but to draw parallels with the bible/God.
Of course, if you don't know much about the Bible, some of the references would be lost to you. However, it is still an enjoyable movie. Nothing gory or fancy blood work to scare the daylight out of you but impressive enough to keep you at the edge of your seat. What didn't quite make sense is how/why would anyone simply invite strangers into their homes, eventually turning it into a circus.
For a movie that started off (somewhat) rationally, it spiraled into chaos that I kept thinking, this can't be real. After all, how could a meet&greet session turn into a house party and eventual war, all in the same night? Hour even. This is where things got a bit out of hand and just didn't make sense anymore. Some may find this movie upsetting due to the lack of rationale/logic. Some may not like it since it's not a straight up horror in every sense.
However, you do get a look at some boobs. Is that consolation enough?
If you are at a lost at the end of it, here's a good explanation on what your mind just went through.
