While googling for some good food in the OUG neighborhood, I came across this joint which supposedly serves one of the best ribs in town. This area is dominated by kopitiams but quite a few hipster cafes have sprung up. Whether they stand the test of time, only time can tell. No pun intended.Taman Overseas Union,

Formerly operating out of a stall, they moved into this permanent location. The theme here is surprisingly quite modern, reminded me more of a bar except you get food here. Alcohol is served here too but it's really not the kind of place that you'd go to pick up chicks, despite how groovy and slick the place oozes.
Clam aglio olio with soft boiled egg.
I've never come across any version of aglio olio that would call for an egg as it's usually the carbonara that needs the creamy richness. Does it work? Well, yes and no. The egg was cooked but not thoroughly so it's more like an onsen tamago. Good on its own but I can't say it pairs well with this dish overall. Clams were fresh, fat and juicy. Pasta was cooked and seasoned just right. So, it was pretty good.
Pork ribs with coleslaw and mash potato.
Lets start with the sides. While the potato was not quite buttery, it's still great with the meat. As for the coleslaw, I'm not quite sure that it worked for me. Rather chunky veggie and maybe a bit too much on the mayo. The star of the dish was great. Not dried out with a generous lather of their BBQ sauce, it's quite finger licking good. They even handed out plastic gloves so that you don't have to get your hands dirty.Sauce is slightly sweet with a tinge of sourness.
