Din Tai Fung, eCurve [CLOSED?]

For some odd reason, this particular branch is no longer listed on their website. But fret not. You can still get Michelin star dumplings at their 1Utama branch.

I was here for dinner with the Japanese tinder guy who's been to other branches outside of Malaysia and raved about them. Well, at least now  I can proudly say that I've been to the original Din Tai Fung in Taipei itself 😆

Stir fried organic pea sprout with garlic RM 22.80
If you don't like this veggie in general, you should at least give them a thumbs up for the presentation. Shaped like a bird's nest, you probably paid more for the workmanship than the ingredients themselves. Safe to say, each bite was crunchy, none too wilted from overcooking.

Golden pumpkin with salted egg RM 20.40
Deep fried sliced pumpkin with a generous coating of salted egg batter, what more can one ask for? Crunchily salty on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. The perfect contrast. I've never been a fan of pumpkin or even remotely interested in trying it but this one was good.

Shrimp & pork wonton dry noodle RM 20.40
Although they are also famous for their noodles, I don't quite like the texture. Rather soft without much of a bite. Not gooey soft but certainly lacking in that oomph factor.

Pork xiao long bao RM 13.20
I think it would be a sin to come here and not order a tray of their Shanghainese dumplings unless if you've been there often enough. For first timers, do give this  a try. The thin skin, the delicate folds at the top, this is almost a work of art, if not for they taste as good as they look. Dip it with some vinegar, have it with some sliced garlic (if that's your thing) and let the soup burst in your mouth.
Unfortunately, there's no gentle/polite way of eating this. Burn your tongue, it's worth it.

Steamed pork and vegetable dumpling RM 13.10
Another variation of their famous dumpling, only this comes with chopped greens which I don't like in general so this needed some chili oil to make it nicer. For me that is as my date seemed to enjoy them very much.

Sesame rice ball coated with peanut RM 9.50
These are kind of like mochi except with a lot of peanut. It was all right as a dessert. But then again, at this point, I was really stuffed already.

 Mango pudding RM 9.50
Another favorite (of my dinner date), it was not bad for someone who don't take mango. Kinda milk and slightly creamy without being overwhelming.
