Review: CaliBurger, Sunway Pyramid

One of the newest foreign burger chain stores to hit our shores, I thought that it is from Philippines but turned out that the PH chain is Jollibee, not CaliBurger. Well, they both exude that sunshine, happy aura so can't blame me for getting them mixed up. Just so you know, the Pinoys are really big on their Jollibee and it got me geared up upon news of them opening up in Malaysia.
Alas, that was not to be. It is sad because I wanted to know how good it is for my Pinoy friends to pack them in their homeland airport right before flying to KL. That's serious dedication and effort there.

Oh well, maybe one of these days I'll fly over to Boracay and find out for myself.

Anyway, CaliBurger hasn't been around for that long but I wanted to try something new in this mall that's not available in PJ. Yes, this is one you Subang folks win over us. But is it worth boasting about? For starters, bottomless soda drink is always good. And it's Coke, not Pepsi or some other cola. There's also orange juice and iced lemon tea if you prefer something non-carbonated.

Sugar high and eventual crash but happy to drink myself silly with the paid for soda? Checked.

Lemon chicken salad.
At RM 10++, it's a relatively large bowl of veggie with lots of veggie and a disproportionate amount of chicken. But hey, it's better than KFC's coleslaw as these are fresher than even Subway's. The garlic mayo was good though overall, this was a boring dish.

Cali beef burger.
I opted for the set which came up to about RM 15++ which included a serving of fries and aforementioned refillable drink. Their fries were thick and chunky. No issue of sogginess as they were deep fried through and served straight out of the fryer. The amount may be on a small side if compared to McDonald's but what they lack of in size, they make up in quality. However, truth be told, I still prefer Ronald's because they are thinner so higher crunchy factor if you compare them one to one. Also, McD fries are saltier so probably less healthy. Still, these were fries that could easily put those Western food joints to shame.

The burger itself was rather massive. For about the same price that you pay in Burger King or Carls Junior, these one is definitely worth the bang for your buck. For one, it's freshly made so be prepared to wait at peak hours (somehow, Monday 7pm isn't exactly dinner time here). However, I do assure you that it'll be worth the wait with its succulent patty and sweet sauce. Service was rather prompt when the food was ready.

However, having said those, it'll be difficult for CaliBurger to compete against the likes of McD or Burger King, the real fast food chains unless if they are able to speed things up without sacrificing the quality.
