Movies: Blue Valentine

No, it wasn't because of Ryan Gosling though I would very much like a guy like him to show up at my door step. Don't let the trailer fool you into thinking this is a romantic comedy. It is anything but.

It is the story of a couple's relationship and how it came to be. There were few sweet moments which the guys would probably balk or doze through but the underlying story is a bitter truth that most of us would face at least once in our lifetime. To watch it unfold on the silver screen in a manner that hits close to home, it left me feeling sad even if it wasn't my relationship that is going down the drain:
How do you trust your feelings when they can just disappear like that?
The movie wouldn't quite answer how best to deal with an imminent end but showcases how love grows and fades. To quote Anaïs Nin:
Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.
