Sushi Mentai, PJ SS2
I have covered this place previously. But this time, it's with a proper camera 📷
Crab stick salad sushi.
A kid pleaser. Or people who don't enjoy real sushi.
Fish roe sushi.
Another one for the kids. These may not have that pop factor but you can still taste that distinct saltiness of the roe.
Seaweed sushi. For those who wants a little something that reminds them of the sea (hint: texture).
Jellyfish sushi. When you want something more adventurous from the sea.
Scallop (trimming) sushi. I call this the poor people's scallop because you would only order this if you can't afford the scallop itself. Personally, I think this is nicer as it's slightly chewy and usually prepared with a bit of chili so it doesn't taste bland.
Shiro maguro sushi.
If you don't want to spend to much on their sashimi, their sushi range is just as good. At least you don't end up losing more. Luckily, their sashimi is not bad, just not top notch sushi grade.
Crabstick and mayo sushi.
Simple as simple gets. Nothing fancy, just enjoy the savory sweetness of the Japanese mayo with the imitation crab meat.
Crabstick and cucumber sushi roll. A rather Western take, thanks to the mayo and crabstick. Good to fill up from the carbs.
Tempura and cucumber sushi topped with tempura batter
A little bit of everything, it's on the more expensive range but definitely worth it.
Shrimp tempura and cucumber sushi roll topped with mentaiko.
If not because the tempura isn't crunchy enough, this would have been quite perfect.
Grilled (halved) scallop topped with mentaiko sushi.
To keep their prices down, the premium ingredients are usually lessened. Not that it matters a lot when what you want is to try as much as possible without burning a hole in your pocket or expanding your waistline too much. Fresh scallop well executed, value for money.
Steamed egg.
Texture was good, not too hard and slightly watery. Taste was all right.
Clam miso soup.
At less than RM 10, you get an almost big bowl of (instant) miso soup with bits of seaweed, tofu and of course, clams. They were small and fresh. Another item that's worth the price.
Fried fish bones with mayo and sweet teriyaki sauce.
Sadly, this may have been on the belt for too long that it was not only cold but had lost its crunchiness. Worst combo for any fried food. The only saving grace is it wasn't soggy.
Takoyaki
As these were made to order, you're guaranteed to get hot balls of flour with a tiny bit of protein inside. I would suggest to top up a bit more for more reputable takoyaki stalls.
