Sushi Mentai, PJ SS2
Move over Sushi King and Sakae Sushi, there's a new contender in town for sushi. At either RM 1.80 or RM 2.80 per plate, you can enjoy a fairly satisfying meal of sushi without breaking the bank. Best of all, some of the ingredients are of the premium or more exclusive range e.g. scallop and unagi. Of course, don't expect the portion to be standard or the quality exceptional. After all, you get what you give. I do like the idea of small bites to try out more stuff.
Kani mayo sushi.
We took this off the rotating belt so the seaweed wasn't crunchy enough, a bit soggy from the crab stick salad. Still, it was nice. The green flavor of the seaweed against the sweet salad.
Tamago sushi with spicy roe mayo.
Eggs and mayo, top it with a dash of spicy roe and you get a kids favorite.
Crab stick and cucumber sushi wrapped with bean curd skin.
This combo is just too safe and only slightly salvaged by the soy sauce and wasabi.
Hotate mentai sushi or scallop with spicy roe mayo sushi. While the scallop was barely the size of my thumb, it wasn't not fresh. Enough mayo that you don't think it's non dry.
Chuka kurage or jelly fish sushi.
A hint of chili so that it doesn't taste too fishy.
Spicy salad sushi. Or something ? 😄It didn't have much of a texture in the disguise of the mush but I do like its spiciness.
Inari mentai or bean curd skin drizzled with spicy roe mayo.
I don't really understand this. Or maybe that's because I had never taken a liking for sweet bean curd skin.
Salmon sushi.
A little something more traditional, the fish was sliced thinner than else where but that's probably what kept the cost low. Don't let that fool you as it was still a good piece of sushi.
Unagi temaki or handroll eel.
They do have non-plate sushi such as handrolls, soups and noodles which go from RM 3. Yes, the size is smaller. Yes, the eel is thinner as well. But you go get a piece of crunchy seaweed with freshly cut cucumber with few bites of rice and a (thin) slice of eel that had been grilled, lightly marinated with teriyaki sauce.
Deep fried prawn sushi with cheese.
They offer some non-conventional sushi such as this and they are quite delicious despite the size. Maybe it's the correct combination of ingredients and freshness?
Deep fried prawn sushi topped with crab stick meat.
Almost like the previous one but with a more Asian twist. Don't expect actual crab meat and you're sure to enjoy your meal here.
