Not to be confused with the other Sukiya, this is an all you can eat. The prices here is pre-GST. Yes, it's that long ago. But good food must be shared. When it first opened in Pavilion, it was all the rage. People were willing to queue up to an hour to secure a table. As usual, my lack of impatience meant not jumping on the bandwagon which was great because the fad has since faded. There is the occasional wait but not outrageously so.
The buffet spread is rather standard with raw vegetables, mass manufactured fish and meat balls. However, these aren't the kind of thing that you should binge on.
Eat all the eggs you can safely consume and that's wasabi with pickled sliced ginger. Not a fan of those but maybe you are?
While waiting for the food to cook, there are ready made options in the form of sushi. Please don't expect standard Japanese sushi because this isn't quite what they gained fame for. If you actually queued up for these, bro, why not just go home and cook your own rice and add vinegar while you're at it?
There are few different soup bases available. What's your MO when it comes to steamboat?
Some like to have the veggie in to make the soup sweeter. Some add meat to let the flavor seep in and enrich the soup. I think egg does the trick rather well but it can turn the soup into a big mistake.
This is what you want to go crazy on. Binge and go forth. Thinly sliced beef, lamb and chicken. While I can't say for sure that they are freshly prepared, at least they weren't icy cold or even remotely stiff. Also partly because it was during the dinner rush hour.
This is what 4guys and 1girl can consume in a single seating. We were so thoroughly stuffed beyond words at the end of it.The vegetables weren't to die for but makes for a good palate cleanser and to lessen the guilt. The meat was well worth the trip. Perhaps the only way to make it worth your money as well.
Of course, there is also the dessert counter in the form of ice cream and few choices of toppings. Overall, a nice place to stuff yourself like a Thanksgiving turkey without breaking the bank (too much).
