Sakae Sushi, Sunway Pyramid
Sunway Pyramid has become the hangout place for college kids, families etc that finding parking there was just impossible. Or maybe I came in at the wrong time i.e. the weekend before the lunar new year when everyone is just going in for last minute shopping. Post CNY crowd was more bearable that we didn't have to wait long for a table here. It could also be attributed to the fact that we went in before 7pm as soon after, the place was packed and our orders took awhile to arrive.
Perhaps, by now, everyone is very familiar with this sushi franchise that there's no need for another review. Lets just think of it as an ongoing quality survey OK? Also the fact that I'm too broke to go other better places.
The tamago gunkan sushi has certainly downsized but hey, at least they were made to order so the seaweed remained fresh and crunchy.
Squid sushi which hid the fact that the seafood was very thinly sliced. Not enough to see through them but leaves you wanting more.
Oh, and the food that is on the revolving belt were mainly in the higher range. They really don't hide the fact that they want you to spend more here.
Another squid sushi but this time, topped with mentaiko. Do you feel like these sushi joints now offer sushi rice that's sweeter or is that just my tastebud that has tasted too much coffee?
Avocado and crabstick maki. An easy way to fill you up without breaking the bank. Oh yea, carbs, I so know but what to do, I can't order grilled meat/fish and expect to have any money left for the month.
Chawanmushi with salmon roe. I was thinking of getting the plain version and order the roe separately as a sushi. Holy molly, the salmon roe gunkan sushi was at around RM 20 for a pair. Hence, this RM 7.90 steamed egg ended back in the order cart. Not smooth enough but certainly way cheaper this way if you want them big salty roes.
Cold soba with tempura of veggie and one shrimp. Sadly, by now, the dinner crowd has poured in (and more waiting in line) that the service got slow and food was mediocre. The fried stuff was rather oily. But lets focus on them being hot and crunchy.
