By now, you would know about the benefits of collagen. They come in powder and liquid form. But, did you know that you can even have it in your steamboat? That's what we were about to find out when Fave offered a set for RM49. However, it's really not that much of a promotion if you were to order it from the restaurant. Maybe difference of RM 10? The first thing that strikes you is how Japanese the decor is. Yes it is a Japanese restaurant but the whole ambience is just right.
We were there on a week night so it was rather quiet. The staff was mainly Indian, another surprise. Not being racist here but how often have you seen a Japanese restaurant staffed mainly by them?
The staff came over and placed the pot over the fire.
hello, this is the collagen.
ok, cool.
do you want to try it?
er, no.
Sure, the stuff is good for you but heck, it doesn't look anywhere appetizing. If anything, it's looks like coagulated fat. Actually, that's what collagen is ....
After it comes to a boil, it does look like a proper hotpot. Except with that layer of fat on top.
The set for two came with a platter of food. It's mainly mushroom and vegetable.
This is not a second plate. Merely showing you the enormous amount of vegetables that they sneakily hid to make it look bigger. On a plus note, the vegetables were fresh and you can really taste its sweetness with the soup. I find their Japanese soy sauce also makes the vegetable taste better than if they were to have provided the normal Chinese soy sauce. Of the entire plate, I think there's only a maximum of 10% non-vegetable in it.
It's a great idea to stick the shrimp as it's easier to cook and eventually eat.
Personally, collagen steamboat feels like a novelty that's rather costly. No doubt due to the preparation required. Would I recommend it? Well, if you got the money to splurge, sure. Otherwise, I think buying the supplement would be more viable in the long run.
