Old China Cafe, KL
How many of you actually venture out to Petaling Street in search of food? It's nice to play tourist occasionally and see KL from a different perspective. While technically Old China Cafe is not in the heart of Petaling Street, it's close enough of a walk. The place serves good ol' fashioned Chinese/Peranakan style food that's surprisingly not too pricey given its location.
Their Rozelle drink came with basil seeds, thirst quenching if you don't mind the mild sweetness.
Nyonya chap chai or as I'd call it the lazy mom's cabbage and bean curd stew. This was quite bland in that there isn't a strong note. Memorable in the sense that it could be quite tasteless. Or maybe I'm just more accustomed to heavy flavors.
Curry pork. This was a tiny bit sourish, not creamy like your usual Chinese/Indian curry. That was OK. Only the meat was overcooked and they used lean meat so that was rather tough to chew.
Fried rice with fried chicken. Although shared between the two of us, this portion was surprisingly large. Among all, this was by far the best. The rice was still a little damp but not too much. The fried chicken was thankfully not dry. I do wish that it came with acar or sambal so that the overall plate isn't so dry.
