With the many cafes that have popped up, some have managed to stay around for awhile. Metal Box happened to be one of them. Situated in the swanky Empire Damansara area, the place can be rather crowded as there are many hipsters and residents alike who hang out there.

Since I fall into neither, why even bother? Wannabe hipster also is entitled to dip their toes into hipster-dom. If such a thing exists. Strange isn't it that hipsters aim to move away from mainstream but now that the in thing is hipster-ism (possibly another made up word of mine), what's the opposite of hipster/mainstream?

 Ginger lemon tea RM 10.90
Since we girls are quite cheap thrifty economical, this tea kept us hydrated throughout the night. If you are looking for something gentle to ease you into the night, this isn't it as both the elements i.e. ginger and lemon were rather prominent with each sip. It didn't help that neither of us have the habit of sweetening our teas unless if it already comes sweetened.

Metalbox baked egg RM 18.90: "A pot of sliced smoked chicken breast, diced chicken sausage, potato&egg plant, homemade cannelini beans in tomato coulis and toasted sour dough...topped with 2 free-range eggs, baked to perfection."
And cheese. A cheesy crust
When it first came to the table, my heart sunk a little at its size. While the price is rather decent (most of the items were under RM 20), my dinner was looking much like my exes. A lot of promises in the beginning but empty towards the end of it, leaving me wanting for more.
Thankfully, this dish fared tonnes better than the men in my life.

A protein packed meal, the tomato gravy was great with the rest of the ingredients. The bread slices were lightly toasted, giving it a great texture contrast against the gooey eggs.

Beef ragout pasta RM 18.90
Any pasta that makes me want to go home and recreate it is a good one. The dish seemed simple enough without the complexity of cream and tomato. Not as spicy as aglio olio either or maybe this is the bovine version of it. Either way, the savor notes of the beef lent this dish a hearty note.
