Mid autumn delight

Barely 5 months since my last post on mooncake, here's this year's sugar overdose in the name of harvest festival though the only harvesting any urban dwellers do these days are on Farmville. Is that thing even still around??

During breakfast, my uncle brought this along. A Teochew variation, it is almost like a sticky cake but not quite.
Although I am 1/3 (but supposedly full blown) Teochew, this was confusing. It wasn't very sweet (by my standard) and has a rather different texture. Not quite sticky, not quite gooey, simply difficult to pinpoint it down. For sure, an acquired taste.

To foster better team spirit, I suggested to have a mooncake party. Obviously a full moon party under an actual full moon on a beach somewhere in Thailand would be awesome but my colleagues would probably be more accustomed to the kind where kids turn 1month old.

My boss was skeptical of my mooncake buying skill and this time around, he outsourced it to the PA and they bought few different versions. This one is actually from a home baker. Everything (even the box) is handmade. Well, not mass manufactured.

Baker's Cottage has that typical classy Oriental theme going on. Safe but boring. Their mooncakes were just so-so too.

RT Pastry House's Shanghai style mooncake.
Famous for their bakery, how did they fare?

This version has a less sinful taste to it. The crust is flaky with different layers of them. There are few different fillings in each with one common theme: passable, unmemorable.

Not quite mooncake but it is made from the same dough of the crust. There is no filling so it's like eating a soft cookie.

This was really sweet but perfect with coffee ^_^
