When the Japanese does it, chances are it'll end up being pricier albeit better. Steamboat is one of those Chinese staple meals that the Japanese slowly entered the market to offer it in a healthier manner.

The experience itself is different. Instead of plastic this and that, you get the standard Japanese wares, like you're having a proper sushi meal.

Aperitif to start your meal on the right note. It's these little touches that make the experience memorable with a smile on your face. Of course, the price also lingers in your credit card statement.

They do offer ala carte along side set meals. To make it easier (and less damaging), go for the sets. The difference is usually in the quantity and main protein (meat).

Since there were the 2 of us, we ordered two. This is the first set.

This is the second set. See? No difference at all. The ingredients were fresh with some frozen meat thrown in for more profit.

Mini yee mee and fried garlic in soy sauce. I don't know since when yee mee went on a diet but I do prefer this over its original size. It doesn't taste too different, just that the smaller strand means not as much flour in a bite at any time.

The beef was sliced rather thinly, so that you can swish them in the boiling soup, like the Japanese do in shabu-shabu.

Sliced pork. Like fatty pork. Pork so fat that you eat and die happily. But don't be silly. You need more than this to bid this cruel world farewell. Until then, enjoy sinking your teeth into these babies.

Their soup choices are plentiful. Being the boring people that we were, our pick was the miso soup. After all, this is a Japanese joint. How better to enjoy our first (and sadly last) meal here?

If you're as puzzled as I am, don't worry, you don't have to eat your way through it.

The soup is poured over it, into the individual hot pots. Gimmicky, no doubt but still enjoyable. Does it make any difference to the taste? I don't think so. The overall flavors are light and clear. Very different from the Chinese and Taiwanese hotpots.
