When this place first opened their doors for business, it was literally packed to the point that the queue extended all the way outside. For a restaurant that specializes in pie (and not much of other stuff actually), it is quite surprising. Not wanting to miss out on the hype, we decided to find out for ourselves what the fuss was all about.

They have savory as well as sweet/dessert pies. Both of which you could either opt for a pie alone or with a drink (part of a set). The pie itself also offers you the standard pie, mash potato and green pea mash.

There are also seasonal pies such as for Halloween.

The pies aren't that big but certainly not your standard mushroom chicken pie either.

Lemon lime soda that was part of the RM 19.90 set of the Mashacre.

The Mashacre is really your choice of savory pie topped with mashed potato and green pea mash, followed by some gravy. I don't have problem with greens (absolutely love the kind that ATM dispenses) but this is one green that was too strong for my liking. The gravy didn't do much to mask its taste and you'd want to save the precious gravy for the filling which if like us, could be slightly dry.

Our chicken and mushroom pie had the makings of a good pie but fell flat as there just wasn't enough of gravy inside. Otherwise, it would have a rather decent pie.

Chunky steak pie with mashed potato and gravy.
One for the el cheapo such as moi to pay RM 14.90 sans drinks and green pea mash, my stinginess worked out to my advantage as we both agreed the green pea mash just didn't quite work with the rest of the components.

My choice of filling won the thumbs up as it didn't suffer from being dry on the inside (not as much) and there was enough gravy to go about. The crust is buttery and flaky. It would have been better with more butter but that may not go down well with the local taste buds. While I understand the need to ensure the crust remains crispy, more gravy would certainly have helped.
