Review: The Martian

A rather stellar cast but really, the movie is about Matt Damon. It tells about the story of an astronaut left behind on Mars and his attempts of surviving it until someone picks him up. Sounds straight forward enough.. except that he is on Mars, one of the more uninhabitable planets. Actually, apart from Earth, is there any?

Jessica Chastain plays the captain who coincidentally starred in another space blockbuster, Interstellar. Kate Mara looks very suspiciously alike Anna Kendrick but maybe that's because I am still reeling over Kendrick in Up In The Air. There are quite a number of casts but they pretty much pale in comparison to Damon. He has certainly come a long way from The Talented Mr Ripley and sure to go on for awhile now.

Though having said all that,  I still prefer Interstellar which offered more depth and drama. In contrast, The Martian is like the comedic version of it.
