Review: Khuntai, Klang

Originating all the way up north,Khuntai has certainly made its mark in this part of the country with wholesome, (almost) authentic and cheap affordable Thai food. Their latest branch is in a very obscure part of Klang. The road was previously not even tarred and you just may run into someone's chicken if you are not careful.

There was this joke during my high school days where if you happen to knock down and kill someone's livestock in the village areas, don't bother to stop and offer to pay for the damages as the owner and villagers would rather bash you up. There was no reasoning to them apparently. Just how true that is, remains unknown.

As a Thai restaurant, they don't serve you the usual run-of-the-mill sweet chilli sauce. Instead, you get these wonderful but potentially potent chilli sauces. Each pairs well with different dishes.

Thai style omelet. The green bits are a type of Thai vegetable. Sneaky way to get the kids to eat more greens, I say. They would love the crispy egg especially around the edges too.

Stir fried broccoli in oyster sauce. Very Oriental, nothing remotely Thai but they did justice to this dish with copious amounts of garlic. Not date friendly but when you have good food, who cares? If a man doesn't love food as much as you do, he's not worth your time. Why? There is no sincerer love than the love of food. Perhaps that applies only to me :") I love food. As much as  I love money. Maybe money more.

Stir fried asparagus with belacan and prawns. This vegetable is one that always comes to me as a pricey one. Sadly, they either didn't cook this well or the stalks were still young so it was slightly raw to the bite.

Deep fried tofu. This is like a street food and like (most) street foods, it was awesome with the crunchy skin. What truly brought the dish to a whole different level was the accompanying chilli sauce.

Deep fried salted egg yolk squid. These are the two of my favorite things ^_^ The curry leaves lent a hint of spice. It's great that they didn't smoother the seafood with batter like some overly attached girlfriend. You get a light crispy crunchy batter and sweet squid accompanied by the salty egg yolk. Really, this is one of those things I could just eat and never get bored of.

Their deep friend prawn on the other hand was rather lackluster. Again saved only by the veritable awesome chilli sauces as they were dry by itself, not much of flesh left.

Fish cakes. Somehow, we liked the pickled cucumber more than the patties themselves :D
