Snowflake

Have you heard of the term strawberry generation?  It's a relatively new term that came in place, almost coincidentally as the millennial enter the workforce. Or maybe they are the reason why. Reading through this piece, I lost count of the times that I barfed internally. Of course, it's wrong to generalize an entire generation like this but given the rise of social media 'influencers', one can't help but to wonder what happened there? I think it's the parents' fault for providing them with the notion of 'everyone is special' parenting. You know, we are all snowflakes, unique and special in our own ways.

Anyway, that's just me ranting about how my social media influence is still not reaching above and beyond that I could earn a decent living.

There are now only two Snowflake outlets (that I know of) don't involve going into a mall; Kuchai Lama and Subang SS15. Both don't come with great parking options, only slightly better than finding it in a mall. The good thing is their quality is quite standard at both places. What differs is how wacky of a combination you can come up with.

Base: shaved ice grass jelly.
Topping: taro ball, pearl, red beans and grass jelly.
Drizzle with milk, it's one of the best things to order on hot days as the ice and grass jelly cools you down. They do have it in hot version though that just doesn't sound remotely appealing to try. The red bean's been cooked long enough to be soft.

Base: plain shaved ice drizzled with syrup
Topping: taro ball, grass jelly, pearl and barley.
This is actually the taro ball set that comes with plain ice. Another one of my favorite, thanks to the balls. Barley is cooked until soft and kinda slimy, very unlike in the typical barley drink. If you dislike  slimy stuff in general, skip it.

Base: shaved soy bean ice
Topping: Taro ball, barley, black rice.
Quite possibly the slimiest combo, the barley and soy bean were strong tasting in their own rights. Together, it made for a rather heavy dessert. Put in the rice and you get a very filling dessert. Not gonna try this again.

Base: shaved ice grass jelly.
Topping: taro ball, pearl,black rice.
I love them pearls and balls. Rice? Not so much. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to give and take. Especially with those who's paying for it. Not a bad combo, over all, actually. I think they were having too much leftover of black rice so they dumped more that day.

Base: plain shaved ice drizzled with syrup
Topping: taro ball, black rice, pearl and peanut
At a glance, this is like an Asian version of those Instagram-friendly healthy bowls. Except this isn't half as pretty. Nor even a fraction healthy. The peanut, by itself, was nice. Together with the rice, it almost felt like a meal by itself.

Here's the common denominator among them all: taro balls 😍
The menu does offer ready-combos but I like to make my own choices even if free will is a fallacy.
