Review: Ming Tien Food Court, PJ Tmn Megah

10991, Jalan SS 24/8,
Taman Megah,
47301 Petaling Jaya

Like who doesn't know this friendly neighborhood food court? You can bring your family there for a family dinner. You can go there with your badminton gang after a session. You can bring your date there for romancing.

Maybe not so much the last one. But Ming Tien has certainly built itself a good reputation over the years. Way back then which is really not that long ago, they gained fame for being the first food court to offer free WiFi. What to do, back then, mobile data was so expensive. Now, everyone also can surf on their own line. Or is it just me who has issues using up their data?

I know most people like their jumbo drinks (I'm one of them) but did you know that they do ice kacang too? Most certainly not the most impressive (or even decently priced) one but if you are like me and had a hankering for some icy cold dessert, don't overlook this option.

Otherwise, focus on their food options, of which they are plenty off. Even if you are picky such as moi, there's still much to go around. From snacks to full meals, there's something for everyone.

Fried chicken is my Achilles' heel. I love them in (most of) its variations. Malay with spices, Indian with curry leaves, Chinese with some paste. What I don't like is when they pre-fry the meat, leave it out in the open and serve it to you. Just.like.that. It's fine if they haven't sat there long enough. But when they serve it to me not even at room temperature, the chicken died in vain. This is what happened here.

No doubt, the skin was crispy and the marinade weaved its magic into the meat but why in heaven's name do you give anyone cold fried chicken? Blasphemous. Fried tofu had a crunchy skin but again, suffered the same cold fate.

China pork noodle with dumpling. A rather simply but hearty dish. Homely.

Curry noodle. Sort of like the Chinese married the curry and tom yum together. Lots of heat from the curry so not complaining here.

Pork ribs. You don't usually get pork in food courts but here you do. The meat was cooked until tender and almost falling off the bone. They gave a good cut of meat with fat so it's not too tough. A surprising winner to be found in any food court. Almost something you'd get in a proper cafe.

Chicken chop from the same pork stall. Somehow, the chicken was not as good as the pork. Maybe because it's not as juicy or succulent but still a passable attempt.
