Google Maps is a rather good app to use when traveling abroad to check out nearby attractions or look for something specific in a particular neighborhood. I never quite understood why Google keeps asking me to check in or post pictures whenever I happen to be some locations. It was during my first morning in Taipei that the answer became crystal clear.
If you are a lazy lousy traveler such as yours truly and traveling with someone equally (if not more) undependable to research before the trip, Google Maps will be your savior. However, having said that, I'm not big on uploading my pictures onto Google Maps as it feels like I am allowing people to track me. Thus, thanks to all of you who do.
I found this place which was few minutes walk away. As good as Google Maps is in showing places of interest, it doesn't fare very well as a navigational tool when you're on foot. For starters, it'll take awhile before it registers which direction you are walking at. If you are walking at the wrong direction and it's too late, you would have to walk back to your original spot and start walking again. Buildings also happen to be a good GPS signal Achilles' heel. Or is just my Mi3?
We finally found the place after nearly getting into argument, (no) thanks to Google Map.
The place turned out to be a nice quiet little cafe serving toast. As my breakfast (if such a thing ever materializes) would usually call for something light, their selection of toast was perfect for my first Taiwanese breakfast. Toast is not hardly Taiwanese but they do make good ones here.
The staff was polite and friendly. Certainly a good start for my holiday. I forgave them for being located in some obscure location (facing a park but behind the building of the main street).
Their toasts generally look the same (like this) ↑
What differentiates each is the filling. It's generally a different combination of egg, ham, pork chop, cheese. The bread is soft but lightly toasted on the outside just to a slight crisp, almost perfect.
Pork chop with half cooked egg. When she served us this, the waitress warned us to be careful with the runny yolk as it would spill over if you're not careful. True enough, someone managed to get it all over his mouth =_=
The chop and egg were lightly salted and went well with the buttered toast.
Mine was a polygamous marriage of ham, egg and cheese. Not as extravagant but all the ingredients were cooked just right so the toast was sheer bliss. This is possibly the best toast I've ever had and it wasn't because I was hungry (I wasn't then actually). Their milk tea also paired well with their toast.
Have I been eating lousy toast all the while? =\
