Do you like chee cheong fun (CCF)? I don't like or dislike. But, there must be some people who really like them in order for this restaurant to open up few in Klang Valley.
A suggestion from a fellow foodie friend, we met up here for an early dinner. So early that the place was relatively deserted. Does nobody eat dinner at 6pm now?
Anyway, this is like the open kitchen concept. You can also pick the stuff that you want from here instead of ordering from the menu itself. Pretty sneaky because you'll get carried away and not notice the bill you rake up.
For our party of two, this was sufficient as dinner. Given how this is eons ago (the pictures were in another SD card), the price list may be out of date:
- Curry CCF - RM 5.20
- KL-style sweet CCF - FOC as they were having a promo of buy one free one. Unlikely to be still on at the moment of writing
- stuffed tofu - RM 1.70
- stuffed bitter gourd - RM 3.40
- stuffed eggplant - RM 6.80
- stuffed Tao Po - RM 5.10
- beancurd roll - RM 3.70
- pork skin - RM 1.80
- stuffed yuba - RM 1.90
- barley drink - RM 2.80
- cold water - RM 1.20
One thing you'd notice about this place is how they employ the old school charm.
Any (Chinese) Asian would be familiar with the rose pattern and blue goldfish. These are almost synonymous with the good ol' days of perfectly coiffed honey bee hair and demure ladies. Given the choice, I'd take these over the glassware of today since these are almost unbreakable.
With the boring stuff over, lets go to the fun part.
The deep fried spring rolls were pretty good as they were fried to order. Crispy and crunchy, no doubt oily too but hey, only the Japanese can pull off non-oily deep fried food. The Chinese, on the other hand, seems more pervasive in making them oilier, inducing more guilt.
The soup variety of the yong tau foo isn't too shabby either except for the price. Ingredients are fresh and they are quite generous with the meat filling.
Sweet CCF.
Why, for the love of God, why? Sorry but for someone who grew up with the curry version (closest to a sweet note would be during dim sum but that is also more savory). Still, if you like it this way, my dinner date commends the flavors.
Curry CCF.
Now, this is what I am talking about. Although it isn't close to the Ipoh version, the curry has a nice touch of heat. The CCF itself is definitely quite worth the trip with its silky smooth texture.
