House of Pok
But if you're feeling adventurous, you can go crazy, depending on whether your wallet would allow it or not. All the sets below are about RM 14 (add another RM 2 to upgrade to yam rice). The default carb options are white rice and porridge. All sets come with 2 side dishes of the day (negligible amount), 2 main dishes of your picking and 1 main carb. No drinks unfortunately.
Here are the few combos I've tried so far:
Fried kai lan and stewed pork. That veggie is by far my favorite of the cheaper dishes (as you'll see soon enough). Crunchy and crispy, almost like an addictive snack. The meat was fatty and went well with the rice.
Omelette and minced pork with potato stew. The latter was great with the rice as it came piping hot. The potato chunks were rather huge but thankfully, they had been cooked long enough that they were just soft without requiring much effort to bite. As for the egg dish, it had a hint of chai por, quite like the type you can get from economy rice stalls.
White cabbage with pork ribs soup and salted egg tofu.
The tofu has got to be the worst so far as the gravy/sauce tasted slightly butter, slightly of salted egg yok, just not enough to be a proper salted egg yolk sauce. Its only saving grace is the deep fried skin held its crispy texture well. When the soup first arrived, it was hot and much welcomed for the rainy weather. There were few sizable ribs and some cabbage, even some dried scallop was thrown in to give the soup a good flavor. Sadly, after few more sips, the soup turned out to be a wee bit salty that it's best to have it with the rice. Since I ordered the yam rice, the saltiness didn't quite reduce.
All in all, this place does provide decent meals, albeit one must pick the right choices. Perhaps, the saltiness I find in them is a reflection of the bad choices I make in life.
