When they first opened their doors for business, buntings were placed around the neighborhood, on the lamp poles along the road leading there. So much so that I was inadvertently drawn to try them out. Indeed, marketing done right. Possibly I was just too gullible too.

When I asked my parents to guess the business this premise held previously, they were a little stumped. You'd think that people would learn from the past mistake (even if it isn't theirs) but no. Kuala Mama operates from a shoplot that was once occupied by Old Town. Yes, that very same franchise. To be honest, I was slightly surprised to find that Old Town closed down. It's akin to seeing McDonald's packing up. Although their business was not always brisk, the place always had a few tables every night. Or whenever I passed by.

They have sets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Hot coffee RM 3.30 & iced coffee RM 3.80. So you pay an additional RM 0.50 to dilute your coffee further. Although it's more warm than hot, the rich aroma is enticing and the coffee certainly didn't fail as it was rich and thick. So velvety smooth with milk.

Mama siam laksa RM 9.90. Like their coffee in ways more than one, this arrived at the table just warm. Curries are best eaten while hot even if that'll risk burning your tongue because, really, that's the best way to enjoy food. Still, this was a good effort as the curry was quite thick (or maybe because it wasn't hot enough) with lots of noodles. Just not enough of the chicken meat and fish cake.

Nasi lemak ayam rendang with sotong RM 14.90. I was contemplating to order this but my father did instead. For the price you pay, they could have provided more of the sotong and a bigger piece of chicken, both of which aren't too spicy. Rice was certainly aromatic.

Nasi lemak ayam rendang sans sotong RM 10.90. Since I was a scrooge but still wanted to have nasi lemak, I order this instead. Paying the additional RM 4 for the sotong didn't seem quite worth it. The chicken had the right flavors that you'd get from your typical Malay stalls.

Toast with kaya and butter RM 3.90. It is funny how a loaf of bread from this mobile bakery would set you back by RM 3.50 for the wholemeal version yet here I am paying almost the same price but only two slices. Of course, this came with kaya and sticks of butter (what's with places and butter sticks on toast? fts). Most importantly, somebody to prepare and clean up after you. Having said that, this was a nice crunchy toast but they were a little stingy with the kaya. And the butter.

Why!?!?!?!
