Review: 88 Seafood, Aman Suria

Due to its proximity and relatively cheap price, this has now become a somewhat defacto dinner option when it's been a long day and we just want to have something reliable nearby. On occasions, they have good deals like the free ice cream. This time around, it was RM1 for fresh juice. That's a real bargain.

Since I'm unfamiliar with vegetables in general, I leave it to dd to do the ordering of them fiber. Otherwise, he'd be just eating sweet potato leaves, broccoli, tofu and spinach. Thus, it is without shame for me to admit that I don't know what this vegetable is called :D Also that it's not on my order list. Mainly because it takes a fair bit of effort to chew it but taste wise, it isn't bad.

Another vegetable that I am familiar with. Not because it's a favorite, but one that I generally try to avoid as it can taste a little too green depending on the cooking method. Here, it's tossed with enough garlic to warrant no second date. But it does keep the overall flavor simple.

Due to its rareness, the price for this can be quite high if you ever do stumble upon any. The taste is almost like eating spring onion, just not as green. It does grow on you after awhile but if you don't eat it with rice, the taste can become a little overpowering after few bites.

Seafood tofu. A rather homely dish that is perfect for those rainy nights. I love Japanese tofu as it's not as bland as the normal white tofu. The gravy is welcoming with a hearty note. Simple dish but evokes the right notes of eating home when outside.

Kam heong style stir fried chicken. Because it shouldn't be only the lalas that get all the spiciness. The chicken should join in the fun too. Unfortunately, while it's a unique rendition, this style is best left to the shellfish.

Nyonya style steamed fish. At RM 25, it's quite a bargain especially if you eat it with rice due to its copious amount of gravy. They certainly didn't go easy with the spices, making it even more awesome. The fish was fresh but hindered by the one too many small bones.

Guinness infused pork. Oh so sticky and bony, these are good to chew and suck. The sort of words you wish your wife/gf would say about you. Unlike you though, these were really savory sweet.

Steamed herbal chicken. That particular night, the service was slow and the place was getting crowded. It was easy to tell that the kitchen was in utter chaos as patrons started to leave without having their order as it was taking way too long. This was no exception. The wait would have been worth it for its hot soup infused with herb, if not for their choice of meat. Rather, bones as there were more bones to spit than meat to swallow.

After that painful dinner, we stopped going there to avoid the same fate of being starved to half dead. Maybe the service was resumed to normal. I hope it has as it's quite a waste to go down like that.
