Movies: Ex-Machina

One of those films that are wasted on Malaysian cinema (thanks to our board of censorship), the film has only 3 full characters and 1 part time in a single setting. You'd think that's a recipe for a potentially boring film but the plot is not straightforward and would definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

It tells about a guy who is introduced to an AI robot and things get deeper from there on. Any geek (or unfortunate IT major) would be able to tell you about the Turing test which forms the basis of this film. Without spoiling the movie too much, it blurs the line between human and AI. Over the years, we have made much advancement in the field of robotics and AI that some people predict that robots will officially take over the human race. I don't believe that it would happen during my lifetime or even my future generation (pity your offspring if such a thing exists) but this series gives a chilling view of what the future may hold.

Anyway, this film is a good introduction to a potentially scary future of human genocide in the hands of something we built to help us.
