KyChon, PJ SS2
If there's an award for longest ever renovation, it would go to this particular shop. Formerly a mamak, it closed down without a sign of whats to come. When KyoChon finally decided to announce that they were taking over, I was eagerly anticipating for them to open their doors. It was maybe almost a year later that they finally did open. As it was had 2 floors, the queue was bearable, unlike their branches in shopping malls.
To be honest, I find that Korean fried chickens are quite a rip-off. Very expensive. They say their version is healthier (olive oil, not reused etc) but lets face it, fried is fried. Maybe only slightly healthier than KFC but I honestly don't buy into fried chicken being a healthy food option.
Anyway, the FOMO me decided to give this a try as we were also put off by the queues and this one looked all right. What we didn't expect was we still have to wait a bit for our food after ordering. So much for no queue.
How is it that some people can afford to eat Korean fried chicken regularly because they are pretty damn expensive? Even with the rice and soup, the portion is just enough for 2. Maybe not so if you're a big eater. Having said that, I guess the chicken is tastier without that oily aftertaste. The skin is crispier too, though don't expect the KFC crunchiness here.
Will I come back again? Once is enough.
